The population density and abundance of the Terrestrial snail species Eobania vermiculata (Gastropoda :Helicidae) with their Food Preferences

Abstract

The land snail Eobania vermiculata is one of the most cosmopolitan and harmful agricultural pests, causing economic devastation to many crops. E. vermiculata causing severe damage to different important plants all over Egypt and especially in Ismailia Governorate.This study focuses on the abundance and distribution of the terrestrial snail brown garden snails Eobania vermiculata across successive seasons. This terrestrial snail species is considered as important economic agricultural pest that distributed in many governorates in Egypt causing severe damage and hazards to economic field crops, vegetables and ornamental plants. The initial infestation of the terrestrial snail species Eobania vermiculata appeared in December 2021 on the leaves (1.20 individual/tree), stems (2.80 individual/tree), and soil surface (0.80 individual/tree) in Orchard of Mango tress in Ismailia governorate which considered as relatively low abundance. In this research study, Eobania vermiculata found on leaves and stems of mango trees in May 2022 with an average of 13.6 to 16.00 individual/tree. This study includes the food preferences and consumption patterns of this species.
