Abstract

Phorid flies (Diptera : Phoridae) are widespread globally. They comprise the third largest group in the world of Dipteran parasitoids after Tachinidae and Bombyliidae. In Egypt phorid flies were classified into two subfamilies, Phorinae and Metopininae which contains few genus and species. Present study was carried out at Ismailia, Egypt from May to November 2024. During mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori L. rearing, dead larvae were contain dipterous larvae turned to adult flies which identified as Phoridae. This is the first detection of phorid flies as necrophagous on mulberry silkworm. Results indicated that three phorid flies were taxonomically identified, tow recently registered, Megaselia scalaris and Megaselia koffleri Schmitz, 1935 Name updated by Megaselia curtineura Brues,1909. While the third was a new recorded Specie in Egypt, Megaselia ventralis Borgmeier, 1963. Identification key to the three species of Genus Megaselia were illustrated. present study recorded two subgenera of genus Megaselia, Sub genus Megaselia Rondani and Sub genus (Megaselia) Aphiochaeta Brues.
